Kern Valley Medical College presents an IV Therapy Certification program incorporating Blood Withdrawal. This course holds the coveted Approval from the Board of Vocational Nursing Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT). Upon triumphant completion of this program, participants will be rewarded with 36 CE Contact Hours. The course is meticulously structured to equip Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) with the skills to commence and oversee intravenous fluid infusion through primary or secondary infusion lines and conduct blood withdrawal procedures.
Throughout the course, a wide array of topics will be covered, including the legal framework of IV therapy and blood withdrawal, practices for infection control, indicators for IV therapy, various venipuncture tools, infusion systems, types of intravenous fluids, optimal venipuncture locations, patient monitoring strategies, fluid flow management, equipment selection, potential complications of IV therapy, blood withdrawal methodologies, site preparation, as well as safety protocols and universal precautions.
Successful course completion necessitates students actively engaging in a skills laboratory, demonstrating proficiency in four (4) successful blood withdrawals and three (3) prosperous IV starts. Only students who meet these requirements will be granted certificates upon completion.
